The founders of VSTEP had envisioned since its founding in 2002, that computer software could be developed to prepare safety and marine professionals for incidents in a virtual environment. The founders brought together a group of software engineers led by entrepreneurs to bring that vision into reality: to develop simulators for maritime, safety and security professionals to train in a realistic environment, without the dangers, costs and time associated with traditional training.
Great steps forward will be made in training those who have to face the management of incident and emergencies both onshore and offshore if software can be developed that makes such virtual training possible – to train whenever, wherever without the need for extensive logistics and material. The founders believed that if VSTEP succeeded in developing such software, the training world would become a safer place – through vastly improved training methods.
Till this day, we support future seafarers, firefighters and other professionals to be prepared for scenarios that they can face in their line of work. We do this with passion, dedication and hard work. One of our key values is to find new ways to be on the forefront. We will go far and wide to find our clients the right technology to serve their purposes.
VSTEP have now grown to become a premier developer of two core product lines: NAUTIS (Marine Training Simulators) and Response Simulator (Virtual Safety Training Simulator).
The vision of the founders became the roadmap for our business and it guides us towards accomplishing our goals and objectives.
Our vision is to be a leading global provider of innovative training simulators that enhance our customers’ overall training effectiveness and safety. Through continuous research and development, we are able to develop more advanced simulators, which reduce costs for our customers and increase the efficiency of virtual training. We want our customers to continuously benefit from these innovations and in the long term benefit from large cost savings, better trained personnel, and, first and foremost, optimal safety during training.
Our mission is to create innovative, high quality training simulators that exceed the demanding global standards and allow our customers to derive maximum value from their training investment. Our objective is to do business with the highest ethical standards, to be an excellent employer, to deal with our suppliers/sub-contractors fairly and with integrity and to be transparent in whatever we do.
At VSTEP, we strive to provide our customers with tools that enable them to teach their trainees in the best possible ways the skills to safely navigate a vessel, to safely and effectively respond to an emergency situation and to enable our customers to provide such training against the lowest possible costs. These tools are simulators, in various forms and shapes, with one common denominator, state-of-the-art technology. We aim to continuously develop this technology to standards exceeding those of Regulatory Authorities and to meet our customer’s expectations.
In order to build great products, we have set six leading principles to guide our design and development decisions:
Transparency – Towards colleagues as well as clients. Why? To improve our products and fuel innovation.
Quality – Over quantity. If we build something, we do so in the best possible way. No shortcuts. Reliability under all conditions.
Realism – Our products are used in a variety of sectors and industries. Our simulators provide training possibilities that are cheaper and more convenient than real world alternatives. No concessions are made to reality; anything can be simulated.
Efficiency – We have a heart for UX. We make clever and efficient products by knowing our clients and listening to them.
Flexibility – Our clientele is very diverse. Our product can be tailored to any context due to the flexibility of its usage. Rather than seeing an opposition between simplicity vs. complexity, we prefer to approach it as complexity made easy.
Versatility – We strive to become the standard for simulators. We offer our product as a modular platform, so that clients can integrate it with their own unique purposes.
Using these principles, we set out to develop and optimise our product towards every individual client. We measure our success by the long term satisfaction of our clients, and our own ability to understand our client’s needs.
At VSTEP, we are committed to limit our impact on the environment. The VSTEP offices are located in modern, energy-conserving buildings, on the doorstep of all means of public transport.
During business trips, each air travel trip is considered on its environmental consequences and only undertaken when absolutely required, with a preference for airlines that take their environmental responsibilities seriously. Care is taken in details such as vendor selection, the use of materials etc. with the environment in mind. Our VSTEP employees are actively encouraged to respect the environment in their daily life.
VSTEP has become a member of the Green Award Foundation since 2014 as an incentive provider. Yet, it is the products of VSTEP that offer the most environment-friendly benefits: starting with our simulators which are considered as the least energy consuming ones in the market. VSTEP’s technology enables its simulator hardware to be run on relatively limited amount of PCs compared to other simulator systems. VSTEP selects hardware for their simulators with awareness of its energy consumption, always choosing the best in class. It is a given fact that training by simulation has many benefits over real life training, including not in the least place being environment-friendly and energy saving.
Environmental protection is actively pursued at all times and awareness of environmental consequences is in our DNA for everything we do at VSTEP.
