Chevron Shipping is the global marine transportation unit of Chevron, one of the world’s largest energy companies. They have been operating in this field for more than 120 years and has grown to become a market leader in the transportation of crude oil, liquefied natural gas (LNG) and refined products. Chevron Shipping guarantees that these valuable deliveries are carried in secure and reliable manner and reach their clients on time. The NAUTIS Maritime Simulator enables them with this goal by providing true-to-life simulation training aboard a number of vessels.

In 2015 Chevron purchased a full mission NAUTIS simulator for their Glasgow training facility at Northern Marine Management located in Clydebank, West Dunbartonshire. NAUTIS is a perfect addition to their training facility as it allows the mariners to train in scenarios that reflect realistic conditions. The training stations and radar interface help the crew practice and improve their skills in a cost-effective and efficient manner. With the addition of several vessels with MARIN hydrodynamics in 2017 Chevron enriched the overall training experience and made it more applicable to the company’s core business.

“Chevron has been setting the bar quite high with respect to training since day one, mentions Steve Claes, Technical Director at VSTEP. “In 2017 Chevron suggested to merge MARIN’s high fidelity research and simulations into our platform. Together with MARIN we have set up an interface between our both simulations, which enhances the training experience on our platform by combining MARIN’s expertise and our peripheral set up. This resulted in a “best of both worlds” solution that assists Chevron with their goal to safely and efficiently deliver energy to their customers around the globe.”

“With the extended support agreement we can continue our partnership with Chevron Shipping and provide them with outstanding assistance, maintenance and product upgrades. This will guarantee both a consistent and up-to-date product experience and enable the company to train its personnel to the best of their abilities,” says Fabian van den Berg, Commercial Director at VSTEP.
