Rotterdam, 28-11-2022 – In October 2022, Ahoi Captain leased Portable Simulators for the Basler Berufs– und Weiterbildungs Messe to attract high talents and invite them to practice their skills. The Portable Simulator captivated attention and led to a significant increase in traffic in comparison to previous events.

Ahoy Captain is a collaboration between several shipping companies to showcase the shipping industry at the Basler Berufs und Weiterbildungs Messe, in Basel.

The companies River Advice, Unibarge, SVS (Schweizerische Vereinigung fur Schifffahrt und Hafenwirdschaft), Danser and Port of Switzerland are all based in Switzerland. They have joined forces to offer the public a wider range of opportunities to learn and to be trained onboard different types of vessels used in the shipping industry.

They have leased two Portable Simulators with conventional and azimuth controls for the Basler Berufs– und Weiterbildungs Messe (English: Basel Job and Training Fair) from the 20th until the 22nd of October 2022. As the company offers a variety of training, they required conventional controls for cargo related scenarios and azimuth controls for cruises.

At VSTEP, we understand that our customers strive to provide their students with the most applicable training. Hence, they oftentimes request us to develop environments that are location bound.

Ahoi Captain asked for three Rhine environments for the Basel Job and Training Fair in order to stay relevant and useful for the event’s audience. Given that Rhine River is the biggest river in Switzerland, it makes sense that Ahoi Captain train their students on Rhine environments. We were happy to help them enable learning with our NAUTIS simulators.

Double the Traffic

Our Portable Simulator is an innovative product that naturally attracts people’s attention. We see it ourselves at events we showcased the simulator this year, such as Maritime Industry or SMM. Our customers share similar feedback with us that having our Portable Simulator at their booth helps them stand out and significantly increases traffic they receive at their stand. That was also the case for River Advice at the Basel Job and Training Fair.

VSTEP’s Portable Simulators became a valuable addition to the fair. It would have been complicated, heavy and nearly impossible to bring a full simulator to this event. However, we wanted to give everyone an opportunity to practice their skills and get insights into what training at Ahoi Captain looks like. VSTEP helped us accomplish this mission with their innovative and compact product, Portable Simulator.

VSTEP’s Position in Switzerland

In line with our vision of having one third of the maritime industry being trained on NAUTIS, we continue taking steps to strengthen our position in new territories.

Starting a relationship with such a prominent customer in Switzerland, as Ahoy Captain is an honor for us. We hope for a long-term collaboration, and it was our pleasure to hear that Ahoi Captain sees it the same way. Ahoi Captain has confirmed that they will rent our Portable Simulator again for the next fair and possibly for other events.
