Rotterdam, 28 September 2021 – VSTEP helps Texas A&M University, The Galveston Campus (TAMUG), facilitate its mission through a Mobile Standalone NAUTIS Desktop Simulator.

Who is Texas A&M?

Texas A&M University is the state’s largest university, with nearly 70,000 students. The Galveston Campus (TAMUG) is known internationally for its focus on all things “ocean-oriented” offering a unique blend of innovative marine and maritime programing. Graduates go on to become licensed officers of the US Merchant Marine, members of the US Navy or have diversified career opportunities within the growing maritime industry.

How could VSTEP help?

TAMUG continues to raise the bar with access to educational and research tools that help their students, teachers and staff reach their potential. To facilitate this mission TAMUG purchased a Mobile Standalone NAUTIS Desktop Simulator from VSTEP Simulation, the DNV Certified software platform, complete with Scenario Editor, provides effective, safe and efficient training.

NAUTIS Simulators provide a training platform with immersive port and ocean condition graphics, physics-based line dynamics and a comprehensive library of 6DOF hydrodynamic models. With VSTEP’s NAUTIS Desktop Simulator students and instructors can take command of any ship from a cruise ship to a 6M RHIB all while observing a realistic visual field of view, monitor conning, real RADAR/ECDIS positioning and perform maneuvers such as general ship handling, docking or approaches. This is all done with a goal in mind – to create a true-to-life learning environment, so that we can enable learning by simulation for the Texas A&M’s students.

“Learning through maritime simulation is the single most valuable opportunities educators can provide for future mariners. VSTEP is proud to support TAMUG in its pursuit of innovation. By supplying a NAUTIS simulator and in-service maintenance and support VSTEP can ensure that TAMUG always has the most up-to-date version of our DNV Class software in which to create challenging training scenarios to prepare students for real-life operating conditions.”
