Rotterdam, 11 April 2019 – VSTEP is proud to announce the release of Response Simulator, the world’s most advanced virtual training platform. The new system will provide even more benefits to users by further expanding the safety training capabilities.

New innovative safety training solutions

RS Canal IncidentRS Training at VSTEP

Response Simulator (RS) is a new virtual training platform developed by VSTEP Simulation. Response Simulator builds upon the reputation of VSTEP’s previous Incident Command simulator RescueSim. It further expands on the foundation that RescueSim set and enables a much wider range of training options. The new virtual platform will not only accommodate Incident Command training as a system, but can also be expanded to many more types of training scenarios. These innovations will enable more users to benefit from the advantages of virtual training.

The current landscape, in which safety and security professionals work, demands newer, more stringent safety training procedures. To ensure that they are prepared to face potentially dangerous situations, they must obtain the necessary knowledge for correct procedural handling. This is typically done through practical training, which remains costly and prone to accidents. Response Simulator eliminates these problems and allows users to train their skills in an advanced virtual environment. It is already the go-to solution for Incident Commanders and, with the improved system, Response Simulator will bring training to an even higher level.

The strength of a new platform

The improved platform brings with it a wealth of new training opportunities for users. These opportunities help enhance the training potential of each session. “Throughout the development process of RS, we looked at how each improvement can create the most positive impact. This paved the way for the introduction of benefits that are tailored towards users’ needs. Processing this valuable input was a critical aspect to improving how our users experience the virtual trainer. This is a focus we will continue to build on in the future,” mentions the UX Design team at VSTEP.

The benefits of the virtual training platform include:

  • Modular solution – Choose functionality and content to suit your sector and training goals. New content and modules are actively being developed to expand training capabilities.
  • User centric design – The simple, intuitive interface allows non-technical users to quickly learn and operate RS. Instructors can now do much more in less time.
  • Enhanced capability & capacity – Create highly detailed and complex scenarios using the new rand powerful and easy-to-use scripting and creating tools.
  • High visual fidelity – Photorealistic rendering of objects and environments enhances trainee immersion.

The go-to virtual training solution

RS uses a 3-step approach to ensuring effective training:

  1. Create – Define your training goals and create scenarios with tools that fit your needs.
  2. Train – Connect the trainee to the scenarios and begin training in virtual environments.
  3. Debrief – Play back your training session and discuss how the training was conducted.

“By following this approach, our trainees can gain the most from what the platform has to offer. RS is relevant to a wide range of industries and organizations such as fire and police departments, first responder organizations, offshore vessels, naval and coast guard, ports and much more. Despite the high number of potential users, training requirements can always be met through the use of content packages (aviation, industrial and maritime). Each package contains objects, vehicles and characters that can accommodate your sector specific needs,” mentions Tije Vos, Sales Manager of Response Simulator. “If necessary, custom content can also be created. This will allow a much deeper training experience as trainees are placed in situations that they are familiar with.”

“I am very pleased that our team has succeeded in making another great product. We have worked very hard on polishing everything and allowing our users to benefit even more from its training value. Response Simulator will surely be a part of the success of VSTEP and I look forward to seeing that happen,” states Fabian van den Berg, Commercial Director at VSTEP. The future of Response Simulator will see further expansion of the platform and an increased focus on ensuring the system’s capabilities align with the needs of Response Simulator’s users.

A multi-system approach

RS Aviation Instructor Station

The RS platform accommodates several training systems that can fulfill various training needs. One of these systems is RS Incident Command. This ready-to-use system was designed especially for emergency responders who encounter risky and unpredictable situations on a daily basis. RS Incident Command equips users with a powerful tool that enables the recreation of emergency situations in which response strategies can be practiced in a cost-effective, risk free and timely manner. High fidelity visuals and an friendly user interface ensures an immersive training experience for all levels of users – from beginners to professionals. Key benefits of the RS Incident Command include:

  • Training of different roles and responsibilities during incidents
  • Building command and control skills
  • Training and assessing communication

Another system within the platform is the RS Creator. This system lets users build detailed incidents and evolve them into scenarios. Key benefits of the RS Creator include:

  • An intuitive instructor interface
  • The RS World environment
  • RS content library
  • Configurable objects

Considering its suitability for use in classrooms and other group sessions, this system is a powerful tool to reach many individuals by demonstrating the scenarios that have been built for training and education objectives. It allows those operating the system to construct scalable and detailed incidents. These incidents can subsequently be transformed into scenarios for further visualisation. “What is key is that we created a platform in which training of any sort can be done. The RS Creator perfectly demonstrates RS’s enhanced training capabilities. It is a wonderful solution for professionals wanting to take their training to the next level,” mentions Ben Borrie, Product Manager of Response Simulator.
